Vulnerability

*Names changed for privacy.

Lucy kept her story to herself for seven months before she was able to share it with someone she trusted. She was scared of judgment, retaliation, and rejection. But by leaning on tools like the ones What is the Power of We is developing and sharing, she was able to tell her story in her words and on her own terms.

Just $50 could sponsor a storytelling-for-healing workbook that provides survivors with the tools to share their stories, on their own terms, in the first step to healing.

“Speaking my story saved my life. I no longer had to live in fear or hide in shadows, even from myself.”

Lucy

After having panic attacks after her sexual assault, Elena* went to a hospital and was met with support from a YWCA Chicago advocate and caseworker. She now volunteers with the YWCA, to ensure that other survivors are met with the same care and support that she was.

Just $100 could provide one hour of life-changing counseling for a survivor of sexual assault.

“And she just said, I believe you. Every woman should have somebody just say ‘I believe you.’”

Elena

Thanks to Sakhi’s emergency housing program, Priya* was able to escape her abuser and find a safe place to live.

Just $65 can help support a survivor’s basic needs–whether for food, rent, or crisis intervention.

“My college counselor called Sakhi’s helpline for support, and they’ve since connected me with a shelter, helped me cover moving expenses, and identified additional NYC resources for me to access.”

These stories, like Priya’s, Elena’s, and Lucy’s, will travel with us to Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica, which we will climb in December 2025. We climb to make visible the survivors who might feel invisible. We climb to carry our stories, and theirs, to the highest places on Earth—and to make sure they are never silenced again.

You can sponsor our Mount Vinson climb so we can amplify the voices of Priya, Elena, and Lucy.

Vulnerability is not weakness. It is how we begin.

Beginning is the hardest part. It's the part that requires a willingness to be seen and known—fully, by ourselves and by others. In law and policy, “vulnerable” is often a label placed on others. But we reject passivity. We reclaim vulnerability as an act of courage. It is work we do for ourselves.

We are leading the way. Showing up, speaking out, and telling our stories.

To step into our power as survivors, we must start with vulnerability.
